Pakhi Inspiration!

Pakhi is one of my favourite types of photographs, the unexpected beauty that you see on an ordinary day. Thousands of crows all sitting in a group of leafless trees, on an overcast autumn day. You just hope that you can capture what you see in front of you, in a photo, and when you have you smile. I wish I could have captured the sound of all those birds talking to each other as well, it was all so beautiful, and so unexpected!

Back to crafting!

So for the first time in months I had time to make some jewellery. It's been so long, and I could feel the itch to make something with my own hands. I also decided this blog was due for another tutorial.

  1. Jewelery Findings: Large loop chain so the necklace has an adjustable length, 6 jump rings, 2 crimp beads, 2 decorative links, and 1 lobster clasp.
  2. Chunky flat beads, I got these from a broken necklace.
  3. Basic jewellery pliers, and a wire cutter
  4. Chain (two pieces of equal length)
  5. Beading wire

So I got all my supplies at my local Michaels, except for the beads. I really liked the water colour effect of the beads, and wanted to highlight them by grouping them together. You will require some basic jewellery skills and tools. For some great visual lessons go here to My Girlish Whims Jewellery Lessons.

The steps are pretty easy:
  • String the beads onto the beading wire, loop and crimp both ends, similar to this technique:
    How to use Crimp Beads

  • Use jump rings to link the beading wire to the decorative links and then link them to the chains using this technique:

  • Optional: Add large loop chain with jump ring, to make necklace adjustable

  • Add lobster clasp to other end of chain with jump ring, and then you are all done!

Hope you enjoy this! If you want tutorials on any specific techniques, let me know and I'll be happy to do a posting!

Giveaway on Designwali!

I am so excited!

I contacted Sundeep, the author of one of my must-read everyday blogs, Designwali , and told her about our Chobhi scarves, and I offered her one to giveaway. She loves them, and coincidentely was planning on having a giveaway week on her blog the following week.

Well today is the day!

I can't belive we are featured on her blog!

If you would like a chance to win the Pakhi scarf , go to the Designwali post here, and follow the instructions.

I had to take a screenshot! This is so surreal for me, my favourite blog, and our logo!

Brown vs. Purple

So I'll admit, I noticed that the cotton mulmul Moyur scarf photos didn't look quite right.
But compared to the many other details swimming around in my head before the launch, it was very small. That is until a coworker told me how she was having trouble choosing between the purple and brown scarf. I was confused as I had not designed any brown scarves. So onto the website we went and all of a sudden it was very apparent how wrong the colours looked!

So yesterday once I got home from work I edited the images so that they more correctly reflected what the scarf truly looks like.

                                             Before                                                                       After

Aah much better! I've now learnt that no detail is too small! Especially if someone bought this scarf thinking it was brown and ended up with something very different!

Daily Photo

Hope all of you in Canada had a lovely Thanksgiving weekend! I did! I am lucky to have a wonderful circle of friends and family who support me, laugh with me, and make me feel like one of the luckiest people! The weather was crisp and beautiful, and the fall colours are just gorgeous this year, so we went for a photowalk on a local trail.

Crafty Tuesdays

Starting a new job, leaves me with less time to craft, which is precisely why I love jewellery making so much! I recently made this necklace as a gift, and it was easily made while watching t.v. one evening. Again I used beads, and a pendant donated to me by friends. I have never made anything with this colour combination before, but it suited the antique gold pendant.

I love...

Ikat

Sorry for disappearing suddenly! A combination of a new job, and getting ill required me to take some time off the blog, and figure out how to balance everything. Given that this is a midnight post, I still haven't quite figured it out...lol....but I still feel the passion, so I shall persevere.

Now back to the subject at hand, ikat, geometric, tribal, graphic, modern and ancient at the same time, I just love ikat. I've seen these designs since I was a child on my mother's saris, and am now loving it's use on clothes, accessories, and household items. I don't own anything with ikat yet, but it will happen.

1. Koko Company - Cotton ikat pillow
2. DKNY - ikat and polka dots! What more could I want?
3. I have no idea who makes this shoe, but I love it!
4. I regret not buying this Matt & Nat purse, love the colour combo and it raised money for charity.
5. I am a fan of plain white plates, but there is something bold about this set from Littlewoods
6. A versatile bangle from Cwonder, which is hinged, a feature my wide hands appreciate.

Artists who inspire

Yumiyumi aka Aline Yamada, is a wonderful illustrator and photographer (check out her beautiful blog!). Her art is eclectic ranging from floral watercolours to cute animal illustrations. Her world is beautiful, and I love looking at all the details, they would brighten any wall! Her prints can be purchased on her Etsy site, and as a plus are very affordable.
